Year End Party!
We’ve worked out the details for the Fitness Development Year End party! Next Wednesday (Dec. 19), FD will meet at my house instead of the pool. We will go tobogganing and then have some hot chocolate and pizza. The plan is for everyone to meet at my house at 4:30 on Wed, toboggan in hand. Once everyone is there we will walk to the hill. When we’re too cold to toboggan anymore, we will come back, drink hot chocolate and order pizza. I figure the swimmers will be ready to be picked up by 8. Each swimmer should bring $5 for pizza, a toboggan, and warm tobogganing clothes. If there are any issues around finding toboggans or transportation, please let me know. Test Set Tuesdays!
It's time for the results from the last few Tuesdays!
Test Set #4 - IM
For this set, we do 100's of IM @ 3:30. The goal is to descend the 100's. That is start slow, and each 100 will be progressively faster than the last one. This set will get fun quickly. We started with 3x100m IM, and every 4th Tuesday when we repeat the set we will add another 100! This was our first attempt at descending. As shown in the results, both Shelby and James did very well on this set. Not only did they descend all 3 100's, but they were also consistent with the amount of time they descended each 100 by. Shelby descended by ~3.5s and James ~9s.

JP Highlights
Last weekend was OSC's JP Fiset meet. Four FD swimmers attended, making it their second meet of the season. FD had a great meet. Here's a breakdown of some of the highlights:
Shelby
Shelby had a rippin 200 free, taking 10.52 seconds off her best time! She followed that with great swims in her first relay and her first 200 breast. That's right, Shelby swam a 200 breast in the second swim meet of her life!
Omar
Omar also had a rippin 200 free, taking 25.16 seconds off his best time! He blazed some fast 50s on Friday, and swam his first ever 100 fly!
Caleb
Caleb started the meet of great with best times in all of his 50s on Friday. He followed with more best times, a great 100 free and back, and his first 200 IM!
Matt
Matt had a great meet, swimming a bunch of events for the first time. He dropped some major time in both his 200 (11.33s) and 100 free (14.08s)! Most exciting was Matt's realization that his 11 year old B times are not too far off. Mayflower is going to be Matt's meet!!
We have a few more weeks of training before we break for the holidays and the new year. We're trying to put a little party in place before the break for the Fitness Development group. I'll post details as they become available. The first meet after the new year is the Mayflower Swim Meet. It's at Millennium place, so we have home pool advantage!
The results from the last two test set Tuesdays as well as some pictures and videos will be uploaded as soon as I get internet hookup at my new place!!

Test Set Tuesday - Nov. 20
For our third test set, Fitness Development swims 4x100m freestyle on 2:30. The average time per 100m is then calculated.

Test Set Tuesdays!
Two weeks ago we started Test Set Tuesdays. The basic premise is that we have four different test sets. We will do one per week every Tuesday. After the fourth Tuesday, we will start the cycle over. Test set #1 is a kick set, #2 is a sprint freestyle set, #3 is a distance freestyle set, and #4 is an IM set. We will see our progression through the season illustrated with these test sets! Here are the results from the first two Test Set Tuesdays:

For our kick test set we do 100m flutter kick, and 100m breaststroke kick for time.

Flipturn Policy
Upon reflection of the Poppy Meet, I have decided to institute a new flipturn policy for all Fitness Development practices. Flipturns are now MANDATORY during practice for freestyle and backstroke! I know water gets in the nose. We’ll fix that.
Poppy Meet Review
It was a solid weekend of racing. Some personal highlights include Omar's 50 fly, Shelby's 50 fly, Matt's 200 freestlye, and Caleb's 50 freestyle. Now Fitness Development has times to beat! Also, I would like to thank Silvertide's website/blog guru Dennis Anderson for the Harvery's veggie burger on Sunday. Fake meat has never tasted so good. I took some blog pics, I'll post them here soon!!
PS James if you are reading this, this weekend was RAD. So much fun for everyone. You NEED to come to a swim meet to enjoy the RADNESS.

Guest Appearance
This Thursday (Oct. 25) Silvertide's own Delaney Wiebe will be joining Fitness Development for one practice!! I hope all of FD can make it out as Delaney rules!!

19th Annual Poppy Invitational Swim Meet
Silvertide's very own Poppy Invitational Swim Meet is coming up this November 10-11. It takes place at the newly renovated Kinsmen Sports Centre (9100 Walterdale Hill). I am strongly encouraging all Fitness Development swimmers to attend this meet. It's a great way to start the season, and a great introduction to competitive swimming for those who have not swam at any meets yet. I hope every can make it out.
